Hello! My name is Dr José Garita and I’m a dental implant specialist with more than 20 years of experience. In this page i will answer all of the questions I usually get with patients coming from the USA to Costa Rica to get dental implants.

What is a dental implant and what should I know about them before getting them?

A dental implant is a titanium device that we insert into the jaw bone and serves as a replacement for the root of a lost tooth and as a base for screwing a crown after a specific healing process. Take a look at some of our work with happy patients in our smile gallery of dental implants here.

What is the cost of my dental implants in Costa Rica compared to the USA?

The Costa Rica dental implant cost is very competitive compared to the US. You can save up to 65% in all dental treatments. A Dental Implant cost in Costa Rica goes between $800 to $900, plus the implant abutment and crown this could go up to $1650. The total price for a unique Dental Implant is on average one third of the cost in the USA, depending on your state.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

  1. A good candidate for dental implants is a person who has enough bone in the jaw for the procedure. If the person does not have enough bone structure, we can solve this with bone grafting too.
  2. It is important to stop smoking and alcohol abuse before you undergo the treatment. If you have chronic diseases (like high blood pressure, diabetes) it’s necessary to have them under control before the procedure.

What is All on Four?

It is a treatment for dental implants in which the patient has all his teeth permanently changed for a dental structure that we anchor on each maxilla (top and down) with four implants: two straight implants in the frontal area of the jaw and two angled implants in the back.

Four implants are screwed into the upper maxilla and four into the lower maxilla when a complete, fixed denture is created. This is a very popular treatment in the world created by Nobel Biocare.

This is how we do the all on four treatment in the lower maxilla.

What types of implants do you use at this time and why do you recommend them?

I use titanium implants in my practice. I’ve been using them for more than 20 years and they’ve given me excellent results. The brands I have used are Zimmer Biomet Dental, which global experts recognize as one of the companies at the forefront of technological changes. Also Nobel Biocare, which is also a leader in the industry and is one of the oldest. They make improvements in technology frequently and its products are great. We are now starting to bring zirconium implants into the country, because people are asking for them as there are some patients who are allergic to metals and, in those cases, the implant needs to be of a different material.

What is your Dental Philosophy?

At ConfiDental Costa Rica, we believe in preserving as many of your healthy, natural teeth as possible to provide the foundation for a lasting smile. However, when teeth cannot be saved, we believe in using the most stable solutions available.

Benefits of dental implants

One of the most common solutions that we offer to our patients are dental implants. Dental implants offer you several benefits over other solutions for restoring lost teeth because they

  • look and feel like natural teeth.
  • are as strong as natural teeth.
  • they are as stable as natural teeth.
  • last for years or even decades. Today, implants are a lifetime solution.
  • require almost the same care as natural teeth.

At ConfiDental Costa Rica, we can restore your lost teeth with truly affordable dental implants. The process may take several steps, and may require you to return to Costa Rica for a second trip. We also offer one day teeth solution.

After you have decided to get dental implants, we will take a look at your case to see if implants are the best option for you. If implants are recommended, your dental surgery will be scheduled. In this surgery, the dental implants will be inserted into your jawbone. In some cases, abutments are placed on top of the implants immediately, or perhaps in a subsequent procedure.

Once inserted, the dental implants start a process called osseointegration, in which they become part of the jawbone. Osseointegration is what gives the implants their strength, durability, and stability. They literally become part of your jawbone.

Once the abutments are in place, the dentist attaches the restorations (artificial teeth) to them. These may be a single crown, or a bridge with several replacements.

The procedure takes place over four to six months, and will change your life for the better.
For rest of your life, you’ll be able to eat whatever you want, smile and laugh with confidence, and look at yourself in the mirror with pride. You can learn more in the Mayo Clinic website
